Bpd (Bronchopulmonary Dysplasia)

Bronchopulmonary dysplasia (bpd; formerly chronic lung disease of infancy) is a chronic lung disease in which premature infants, usually those who were treated with supplemental oxygen, require long-term oxygen. ... SYMPTOMS

  • Rapid breathing, labored breathing (drawing in of the lower chest while breathing in),
  • Wheezing (a soft whistling sound as the baby breathes out), bluish discoloration of the skin around the lips and nails due to low oxygen in the blood, poor growth.

CAUSES

Bronchopulmonary dysplasia. Bronchopulmonary dysplasia (bpd) is a form of chronic lung disease that affects newborns (mostly premature) and infants. In bpd the lung and the airways (bronchi) are damaged in the neonatal period, causing destruction (dysplasia) of the tiny air sacs of the lung (alveoli).
