Congenital Absence Of Brain (Anencephaly)
Anencephaly: a neural tube defect (ntd) that occurs when the cephalic (head) end of the neural tube fails to close, usually between the 23rd and 26th days of pregnancy, resulting in the absence of a major portion of the brain, skull, and scalp.
SYMPTOMS
The main symptom is unconsciousness., Common symptoms: absence of all or part of the brain
CAUSES
The exact causes of anencephaly are unknown. A lack of folic acid (vitamin b9) before and during pregnancy may increase the chance of neural tube defects, such as anencephaly or spina bifida (a birth defect in which the spine is exposed).
