Asbestosis is a chronic disease characterized by scarring in the lungs, which leads to long-term breathing complications. It is caused exclusively by exposure to asbestos, but it is usually not diagnosed until decades after the exposure occurred

SYMPTOMS

Dry cough or wheezing, shortness of breath (dyspnea), respiratory complications, pain in the chest or abdomen, fever or night sweats, pleural effusion (fluid around the lungs), fatigue, muscle weakness.

CAUSES

Pleural plaques, diffuse pleural thickening, benign asbestos pleural effusion, rounded atelectasis, malignant mesothelioma, asbestos-related lung cancer.
