Baldness(Alopecia)

Alopecia can be temporary or permanent. The most common form of hair loss occurs gradually and is referred to as "androgenetic alopecia," meaning that a combination of hormones (androgens are male hormones) and heredity (genetics) is needed to develop the condition.

SYMPTOMS

The main symptom is hair loss. The pattern of hair loss varies, depending on the cause.
Most common types

  • Male or female pattern baldness
  • With male pattern baldness, hair loss typically occurs on the top and front of the head. With female pattern baldness, thinning occurs on the top and crown of the head. This thinning in women often starts as a widening of the centre hair part that leaves the front hairline unaffected.
  • Alopecia areata
  • The main symptom is hair loss.
  • Telogen effluvium
  • Hair loss is the main symptom.
  • Anagen effluvium
  • Hair loss is the main symptom.

CAUSES

One cause of  pattern baldness is genetics, or having a family history of baldness. Research has found that pattern baldness is associated with sex hormones. Each Hair on your head has a growth cycle.
