Blood Transfusion
The transfer of blood or blood components from one person (the donor) into the bloodstream of another person (the recipient). Blood Transfusion may be done as a lifesaving maneuver to replace blood cells or bloodproducts lost through bleeding or due to depression of the bone marrow.
SYMPTOMS
- Back pain
- Dark urine
- Chills
- Fainting or dizziness
- Fever
- Flank pain
- Skin flushing
- Shortness of breath
CAUSES
You may need a blood transfusion if you have: a severe infection or liver disease that stops your body from properly making blood or some parts of blood. An illness that causes anemia, such as kidney disease or cancer. Medicines or radiation used to treat a medical condition also can cause anemia.
