Complex Regional Pain Syndrome
A condition of chronic severe often burning pain usually of part or all of one or more extremities that typically occurs following an injury, that is often accompanied by swelling, skin discoloration, allodynia, abnormal sweating, and impaired motor function in the affected area, and that is of unknown pathogenesis
SYMPTOMS
- Pain areas: in the nerves, arms or legs, back, foot, or hands
- Pain types: can be chronic
- Muscular: rhythmic muscle contractions, loss of muscle, or muscle spasms
- Sensory: pins and needles, sensitivity to pain, or uncomfortable tingling and burning
- Whole body: nervous system dysfunction or sweating
CAUSES
Complex regional pain syndrome (crps) is a chronic (lasting greater than six months) pain condition that most often affects one limb (arm, leg, hand, or foot) usually after an injury. Crps is believed to be caused by damage to, or malfunction of, the peripheral and central nervous systems.
