Deep Vein thrombosis

Deep vein thrombosis (dvt) occurs when a blood clot(thrombus) forms in one or more of the deep veins in your body, usually in your legs. Deep vein thrombosis can causeleg pain or swelling, but also can occur with no symptoms.

SYMPTOMS

The signs and symptoms of a dvt include:

  • swelling, usually in one leg (or arm)
  • leg pain or tenderness often described as a cramp or charley horse.
  • reddish or bluish skin discoloration.
  • leg (or arm) warm to touch.

CAUSES

A clot blocks blood circulation through these veins, which carry blood from the lower body back to the heart. The blockage can cause acute pain, swelling, or warmth in the affected leg. Blood Clots in the veins can cause inflammation (irritation) called thrombophlebitis.
