Diarrhea
Accute diarrhea is defined as the abrupt onset of 3 or more loose stools per day and lasts no longer than 14 days; chronic or persistent diarrhea is defined as an episode that lasts longer than 14 days.
SYMPTOMS
Loose, watery stools, abdominal cramps, abdominal pain, fever, blood in the stool, bloating, nausea, urgent need to have a bowel movement.
CAUSES
Alcohol abuse, allergies to certain foods, diabetes, diseases of the intestines (such as crohn's disease or ulcerative colitis), eating foods that upset the digestive system, infection by bacteria (the cause of most types of food poisoning) or other organisms, laxative abuse, medications.
