Esophageal Cancer
Esophageal cancer is a disease in which malignant (cancer) cells form in the tissues of the esophagus. Theesophagus is a muscular tube that moves food and liquids from the throat to the stomach. The most common types of esophageal cancer are squamous cell carcinoma and adenocarcinoma.
SYMPTOMS
Pain in the abdomen, dark stool from digested blood, heartburn, indigestion, nausea, or vomiting blood, difficulty swallowing, iron deficiency anemia, loss of appetite, or weight loss
CAUSES
Having gastroesophageal reflux disease (gerd) smoking, having precancerous changes in the cells of the esophagus (barrett's esophagus), being obese, drinking alcohol, having bile reflux.
