Face Ringworm

Tinea infections are commonly called ringworm because some infections form a ring-like pattern on affected areas of the body. Facial Ringworm (tinea faciei), also known as tinea faciale or ringworm of the face, is a common, non-cancerous (benign) fungal infection of the surface (superficial) skin of the face.

SYMPTOMS

Ringworm causes a scaly, crusted rash that may appear as round, red patches on the skin. Other symptoms and signs of ringworm include patches of hair loss or scaling on the scalp, itching, and blister-like lesions. Ringworm is contagious and can be passed from person to person.

CAUSES

When facial ringworm occurs in men around the beard area, it is known as tinea barbae . As with other fungal infections, facial ringworm is caused by a strain of the candida albicans fungus, which is found naturally on your skin and in your digestive tracts as a yeast.
