Fanilial Nonhemolytic Jaundice

Mild icterus due to increased amounts of unconjugated bilirubin in the plasma without evidence of liver damage, biliary obstruction, or hemolysi. Jaundice is a sign of an underlying disease process. Bilirubin is a by-product of the daily natural breakdown and destruction of red blood cells in the body.

SYMPTOMS

  • Fatigue.
  • Abdominal pain.
  • Weight loss.
  • Vomiting.
  • Fever.
  • Pale stools.
  • Dark urine.

CAUSES

  • Alcohol abuse.
  • Liver infection.
  • Liver cancer.
  • Cirrhosis (scarring of the liver, usually due to alcohol)
  • Gallstones (cholesterol stones made of hardened fat material or pigment stones made of bilirubin)
  • Hepatitis (disease and swelling of the liver that decreases its ability to function)
  • Pancreatic cancer.
