Fulminant Hepatitis

Fulminant hepatic failure, is defined as a clinical syndrome of severe liver function impairment, which causes hepatic coma and the decrease in synthesizing capacity of liver, and develops within eight weeks of the onset of hepatitis.

SYMPTOMS

Confusion, extreme irritability, altered consciousness. (this usually leads to unconsciousness or coma.),Blood-clotting defects,buildup of fluid in the abdominal cavity, arms, and legs.

CAUSES

Fulminant hepatic failure is characterized by the rapid development of severe liver injury with impaired synthetic function and encephalopathy. Most common, fhf is caused by toxin-induced or viral hepatitis, but can result from a wide variety of causes. The mainstay of therapy is orthotopic liver transplantation.
