Gangrene
Gangrene is the term used to describe the decay or death of an organ or tissue caused by a lack of blood supply. It is a complication resulting from infectious or inflammatory processes, injury, or degenerative changes associated with chronic diseases, such as diabetes mellitus.
SYMPTOMS
- Skin: blister, blue skin from poor circulation, dark scab, discolouration, or ulcers
- Whole body: fever or low blood pressure
- Also common: creaky joints, foul-smelling discharge, pus, or reduced sensation of touch
CAUSES
Occurs when body tissue dies. It is caused by a loss of blood supply due to an underlying illness, injury, and/or infection.
