Genital Pain
Also called essential vulvodynia, a chronic, diffuse, unremitting sensation of burning of the vulva -- (the female external genital organs including the labia, clitoris, and entrance to the vagina)-- a painful sensation which may extend to the perineum, thigh or buttock
SYMPTOMS
- Burning or stinging pain in the vulva or vaginal opening.
- Sharp, aching, or throbbing pain in the vagina or vulva.
- Vaginal itching, sometimes with pain.
- Pain that is constant or comes and goes.
- Pain that occurs during sex or exercise.
CAUSES
- Trauma caused by sex, childbirth, surgery, or other medical procedures.
- Vulvovaginal atrophy due to a drop in estrogen following menopause.
- Vulvar vestibulitis.
- Cervical cancer.
