Diseases
Gestational Diabetes During Pregnancy
Gestational diabetes mellitus (gdm) is defined as any degree of glucose intolerance with onset or first recognition during pregnancy (1). The definitionapplies whether insulin or only diet modification is used for treatment and whether or not the condition persists after pregnancy.
SYMPTOMS
Can have no symptoms, but people may experience:
- Whole body: excessive hunger, excessive thirst, or fatigue
- Also common: fetal macrosomia, frequent urination, or yeast infection
CAUSES
During pregnancy, the placenta makes hormones that can lead to a buildup of sugar in your blood. Usually, your pancreas can make enough insulin to handle that. If not, your blood sugar levels will rise and can cause gestational diabetes
