Gestational diabetes mellitus (gdm) is defined as any degree of glucose intolerance with onset or first recognition during pregnancy . Gestationl diabetis applies whether insulin or only diet modification is used for treatment and whether or not the condition persists after pregnancy.

SYMPTOMS

Whole body: excessive hunger, excessive thirst, or fatigue
Also common: fetal macrosomia, frequent urination, or yeast infection

CAUSES

During pregnancy, the placenta makes hormones that can lead to a buildup of sugar in your blood. Usually, your pancreas can make enough insulin to handle that. If not, your blood sugar levels will rise and can cause gestational diabetes.
