Hypemic Hypoxia (Also Called Cerebral Hypoxia)

Cerebral hypoxia is a form of hypoxia (reduced supply of oxygen), specifically involving the brain; when the brain is completely deprived of oxygen, it is called cerebral anoxia.

SYMPTOMS

Mild-to-moderate hypoxic brain damage may cause:

  • Headache.
  • Confusion.
  • Decreased concentration and attention span.
  • Mood swings and/or personality change.
  • Intermittent loss of consciousness.
  • Seizures.
  • Poor coordination.

CAUSES

Anemia and carbon monoxide poisoning are common causes of hypemic hypoxia. Ischemic hypoxia ( or "stagnant hypoxia") – reduced brain oxygen is caused by inadequate blood flow to the brain. Stroke, shock, cardiac arrest and heart attack may cause stagnant hypoxia.
