Hyperhidrosis (Underarms Sweating)
Hyperhidrosis is a disorder marked by excessive sweating. It usually begins at puberty and affects the palms, soles, and armpits. Hyperhidrosis, or excessive sweating, is a common disorder which produces a lot of unhappiness. An estimated 2%-3% of americans suffer from excessive sweating of the underarms (axillary hyperhidrosis) or of the palms and soles of the feet (palmoplantar hyperhidrosis).
SYMPTOMS
- Clammy or wet palms of the hands.
- Clammy or wet soles of the feet.
- Frequent sweating.
- Noticeable sweating that soaks through clothing.
CAUSES
In the majority of cases, the hyperhidrosis is localized. Secondary hyperhidrosis: the person sweats too much because of an underlying health condition, such as obesity, gout, menopause, a tumor, mercury poisoning, diabetes mellitus, or hyperthyroidism (overactive thyroid gland).
