Diseases
Hyperrglycemia
Insulin-dependent diabetes mellitus; a form of diabetes in which patients have little or no ability to produce insulin and are therefore entirely dependent on insulin injections
SYMPTOMS
Increased thirst, frequent urination, bed-wetting in children who previously didn't wet the bed during the night, extreme hunger, unintended weight loss, irritability and other mood changes, fatigue and weakness, blurred vision.
CAUSES
Insulin-dependent diabetes mellitus (iddm) is caused by destruction of the insulin-secreting beta-cells of the islets of langerhans. It is proposed that the disease is caused by nongenetic, probably environmental, factors operating in a genetically susceptible host to initiate a destructive immune process.
