Hypersensitivity Pneumonitis

Hypersensitivity pneumonitis (hp; also called allergic alveolitis, bagpipe lung, or extrinsic allergic alveolitis, eaa) is an inflammation of the alveoli within the lung caused by hypersensitivity to inhaled organic dusts. Sufferers are commonly exposed to the dust by their occupation or hobbies.

SYMPTOMS

Signs and symptoms of acute, subacute, andchronic hypersensitivity pneumonitis may includeflu-like illness including fever, chills, muscle or joint pain, or headaches; rales; cough; chronic bronchitis; shortness of breath; anorexia or weight loss; fatigue; fibrosis of the lungs; and clubbing offingers or toes.

CAUSES

Hypersensitivity pneumonitis is caused by repeated exposure to environmental substances that causeinflammation in the lungs when inhaled. These substances include certain: bacteria and mycobacteria.Fungi or Molds.
