Hypothyroidism (Underactive Thyroid)
Deficient activity of the thyroid gland; also : a resultant bodily condition characterized by lowered metabolic rate and general loss of vigor.
SYMPTOMS
Major symptoms include fatigue, cold sensitivity, constipation, dry skin and unexplained weight gain.
CAUSES
Autoimmune disease. People who develop a particular inflammatory disorder known as hashimoto's thyroiditis have the most common cause of hypothyroidism. Autoimmune Disorders occur when your immune system produces antibodies that attack your own tissues. Sometimes this process involves your thyroid gland.
