Lyme Disease
An inflammatory disease that is caused by the bacterium borrelia burgdorferi, which is transmitted to humans by the deer tick. The first sign of lyme disease is a red, circular, expanding rash, usually radiating from the tick bite, followed by flu-like symptoms and joint pains.
SYMPTOMS
Lyme disease causes a rash, often in a bull's-eye pattern, and flu-like symptoms. Joint pain and weakness in the limbs can also occur.
CAUSES
Lyme disease is caused by the bacterium borrelia burgdorferi and is transmitted to humans through thebite of infected blacklegged ticks. Typical symptomsinclude fever, headache, fatigue, and a characteristic skin rash called erythema migrans.
