Macrocytic Anemia
A macrocytic class of anemia is an anemia (defined as blood with an insufficient concentration of hemoglobin) in which the red blood cells (erythrocytes) are larger than their normal volume
SYMPTOMS
- Shortness of breath.
- Muscle weakness.
- Abnormal paleness of the skin.
- Glossitis (swollen tongue)
- Loss of appetite/weight loss.
- Diarrhea.
- Nausea.
- Fast heartbeat
CAUSES
The most common causes of macrocytic anemia is deficiency or defective utilization of vitamin b12 or folate. Do cbc, rbc indices, reticulocyte count, and peripheral smear. Measure vitamin b12 and folate levels and consider methylmalonic acid and homocysteine testing
