Microsporidiosis

Microsporidiosis is an opportunistic intestinal infection that causes diarrhea and wasting in immunocompromised individuals (hiv, for example). It results from different species of microsporidia, a group of microbial (unicellular) fungi.

SYMPTOMS

Thus, the symptoms of microsporidiosis varies greatly depending on the site of infection. o in the intestinal or biliary tract, common symptoms include chronic diarrhea (often loose, watery and nonbloody), weight loss or wasting, abdominal pain, nausea, andvomiting.

CAUSES

Microsporidiosis is a disease that is caused by small parasites called microsporidia. Generally, microsporidia do not cause disease in healthy people but rather in people with immune system deficiency. Microsporidiosis can cause chronic diarrhea, kidney disease, and infection of the sinuses and eyes.
