Mobitz
Type 1 (mobitz i/wenckebach) ... Today, mobitz i heart block is characterized by progressive prolongation of the pr interval on consecutive beats followed by a blocked p wave (i.e., a 'dropped' qrs complex). After the dropped qrs complex, the pr interval resets and the cycle repeats.
SYMPTOMS
- In patients with second-degree av block, symptoms may vary substantially, as follows:
- no symptoms (more common in patients with type i, such as well-trained athletes and persons without structural heart disease)
- light-headedness, dizziness, or syncope (more common in type ii)
CAUSES
Atropine or physical activity: these two increases heart rate which induces wenckebach phenomenon in mobitz type 1 block. Vagal stimulation: this causesincreased block if the block is located in the av node, which suggests mobitz type 1block. If the pr interval is prolonged, mobitz type 1 block is more likely.
