Mouthguard
A mouthguard is a protective device for the mouth that covers the teeth and gums to prevent and reduce injury to the teeth, arches, lips and gums.
SYMPTOMS
- An aching feeling in your jaw, or your jaw joint near your ear (called the tmj)
- Sore spots on your cheeks and tongue.
- Tenderness in one or more of your teeth.
- Non-specific facial pain or aching.
CAUSES
Given that there are many potential causes of teeth grinding, mouth guards only serve as a temporary solution in the long run. Dry mouth and hypersalivation (too much saliva) are the most common complaints of those who wear a mouth guard.
