Mucormycosis
Also known aszygomycosis, mucormycosis is a fungal infection (most commonly of the sinuses, brain, or lungs) by fungi found normally in the soil or in decaying vegetation
SYMPTOMS
- Eyes that swell and stick out (protrude)
- Dark scabbing in nasal cavities.
- Fever.
- Headache.
- Mental status changes.
- Redness of skin above sinuses.
- Sinus pain or congestion.
CAUSES
Mucormycosis is caused by exposure to mucormyete molds. These organisms occur in:
- Leaves
- Piles of compost
- Soil
- Rotting wood
