Multiple Personality Disorder
A dissociative disorder that is characterized by the presence of two or more distinct and complex identities or personality states each of which becomes dominant and controls behavior from time to time to the exclusion of the others —abbreviation mpd — called also alternating personality, dissociative identity
SYMPTOMS
Along with the dissociation and multiple or split personalities, people with dissociative disorders may experience a number of other psychiatric problems, including symptoms:
- depression.
- mood swings.
- suicidal tendencies.
- sleep disorders (insomnia, night terrors, and sleep walking)
CAUSES
Dissociative identity disorder (previously known as multiple personality disorder) is thought to be a complex psychological condition that is likely caused bymany factors, including severe trauma during early childhood (usually extreme, repetitive physical, sexual, or emotional abuse).
