Mycobacterium Marinum
A bacterium found in both fresh and salt water that can cause disease in fish and people. Skin infection with m. marinum is usually acquired from swimming pools, aquariums, or fish-handling. People who have breaks in the skin such as cuts and scrapes are at increased risk
SYMPTOMS
- Patients in poor health or those with other health issues like an impaired immune system or other serious illnesses may experience fever, enlarged localized lymph nodes, and systemic infection.
- When m. marinum infects the skin, it causes localized microscopic nodules to form. These nodules are called granulomas. They occur at sites of skin trauma where there are scratches, cuts, and the like.
CAUSES
Mycobacterium marinum can cause from erythematous to plate-shaped, papules, nodules, single or multiple ulcerations and even sporotrichosis-like presentations, differential diagnosis
