Neck pain can result from disorders of any of the structures in the neck, including the cervical vertebrae and intervertebral discs, nerves, muscles, blood vessels, esophagus, larynx, trachea, lymphatic organs, thyroid gland, or parathyroid glands.

SYMPTOMS

Radiating arm or leg pain.
Numbness, tingling, or weakness in arms or legs.
Problems with balance or coordination.
Loss of bowel or bladder control.
Unintended weight loss.
Fever or chills.

CAUSES

Activities that cause neck pain. Most neck pain is caused by activities that involve repeated or prolonged movements of the neck. This can result in a strain (an overstretched or overused muscle), a sprain (injury to a ligament), or a spasm of theneck muscles.
