Necrotizing Fasciitis
A severe infection of soft tissue that is caused by bacteria (such as group a streptococci or mrsa) and is marked by edema and necrosis of subcutaneous tissue with involvement of adjacent fascia and by painful red swollen skin over affected areas.
SYMPTOMS
- Pain areas: in the skin
- Whole body: fever, chills, fatigue, or low blood pressure
- Skin: discolouration, redness, blister, or crackling sensation under the skin
- Also common: swelling, kidney failure, nausea, or pus
CAUSES
Necrotizing fasciitis is a type of soft tissue infection. It can destroy the tissue in your skin and muscles as well as subcutaneous tissue, which is the tissue beneath your skin. Necrotizing fasciitis is most commonly caused by an infection with group a streptococcus, commonly known as “flesh-eating bacteria.
