Neutropenia (noo-troe-pee-nee-uh) is an abnormally low level of neutrophils.Neutrophils are A common type of white blood cell important to fighting off infections — particularly those caused by bacteria. For adults, counts of less than 1,500 neutrophils per microliter of blood are considered to be neutropenia.

SYMPTOMS

Here can be no symptoms other than an increased vulnerability to infection.
Can have no symptoms, but people may experience:
Common symptoms: fever, mouth ulcer, sore throat, or susceptibility to infection

CAUSES

Intrinsic bone marrow diseases that may cause neutropenia include the following: aplastic anemia. Hematologic malignancy (eg, leukemia, lymphoma, myelodysplasia, myeloma) ionizing radiation.
