Osteophytes
Lumbar osteophytes(bone spurs) video. Osteophytes is A term referring to bone spurs, smooth structures that form on the spine over a long period of time. Bone spurs are physical indications that there is degeneration in the spine and become common with age.
SYMPTOMS
- Spine can cause pain and stiffness in the back.
- Neck can pinch a nearby nerve and cause pain, pins and needles, numbness or weakness in the arms.
- Shoulder can limit the space available for tendons and ligaments, and may be linked to tendonitis or a rotator cuff tear.
CAUSES
- A bone spur (osteophyte) is a tiny pointed outgrowth of bone.
- Bone spurs are usually caused by local inflammation, such as from degenerative arthritis or tendonitis.
