Pre Eclampsia (During Postpartum)
Preeclampsia: a condition in pregnancy characterized by abrupt hypertension (a sharp rise in blood pressure), albuminuria (leakage of large amounts of the protein albumin into the urine) and edema (swelling) of the hands, feet, and face.Preeclampsia is The most common complication of pregnancy.
SYMPTOMS
- Whole body: high blood pressure or fatigue
- Also common: blurred vision, headache, nausea, swelling in extremities, or weight gain
CAUSES
The exact causes of preeclampsia and eclampsia -- a result of a placenta that doesn't function properly -- are not known, although some researchers suspect poor nutrition or high body fat are possible causes. Insufficient blood flow to the uterus could be associated. Genetics plays a role, as well.
