Rem Sleep
A state of sleep that recurs cyclically several times during a normal period of sleep and that is characterized by increased neuronal activity of the forebrain and midbrain, by depressed muscle tone, and especially in humans by dreaming, rapid eye movements, and vascular congestion of the sex organs
SYMPTOMS
- Movement, such as kicking, punching, arm flailing or jumping from bed, in response to action-filled or violent dreams, such as being chased or defending yourself from an attack.
- Noises, such as talking, laughing, shouting, emotional outcries or even cursing.
CAUSES
The disorder may occur in association with various degenerative neurological conditions such as parkinson's disease, multisystem atrophy, diffuse lewy body dementia, and shy-drager syndrome.
