Lung disease is any problem in the lungs that prevents the lungs from working properly. There are three main types of lung disease: airway diseases -- these diseases affect the tubes (airways) that carry oxygen and other gases into and out of the lungs. They usually cause a narrowing or blockage of the airways.

SYMPTOMS

A cough that does not go away or gets worse.
Coughing up blood or rust-colored sputum (spit or phlegm)
Chest pain that is often worse with deep breathing, coughing, or laughing.
Hoarseness.
Weight loss and loss of appetite.
Shortness of breath.
Feeling tired or weak.

CAUSES

There are three main types of lung disease: airway diseases -- these diseases affect the tubes (airways) that carry oxygen and other gases into and out of the lungs. They usually cause a narrowing or blockage of the airways. Airway diseases include asthma, copd and bronchiectasis.
Allergies, infections, or pollution can trigger asthma's symptoms. Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease(copd): lung conditions defined by an inability to exhale normally, which causes difficulty breathing. Chronic bronchitis: a form of copd characterized by a chronic productive cough.
