Rib Inflammation
Costochondritis: inflammation andswelling of the cartilage of the chest wall, usually involving the cartilage that surrounds the breastbone (sternum) but sometimes including the adjacent tip of a rib.
SYMPTOMS
- Broken ribs.
- Injuries to the chest.
- Rib fractures.
- Diseases that affect the bones, such as osteoporosis.
- Inflammation of the lining of the lungs.
- Muscle spasms.
- Inflamed rib cartilage.
CAUSES
Costochondritis is inflammation of the junctions where the upper ribs join the costal cartilage that attaches them to the breastbone (sternum).Costochondritis Causes localized chest wall pain and tenderness that can be reproduced by pushing on the involved cartilage in the front of the rib cage.
