Stage N3 Sleep
N3 sleep decreases with age such that elderly people may have no measured n3sleep at night. This occurs in healthy sleepers and does not indicate a disorder or disease state in itself. Stage R Is referred to as rem sleep or “rapid eye movement”sleep.
Following symptoms were assessed in the questionnaire: excessive fatigue orsleepiness, falling asleep during the day, waking up tired, inattention (trouble paying attention due to sleepiness), snoring, stopped breathing during sleep,insomnia and leg jerks during sleep.
A high percentage of the stage n3 sleep is generally a result of frequent arousals caused by sleep disorders, like sleep apnea, periodic movement of sleep, or snoring. Other causes of sleep disruption, including environmental disturbances, may also lead to increased amount of stage n3 sleep.
