Chancroid. : a venereal disease caused by a hemophilic bacterium of the genus haemophilus (h. ducreyi) and characterized by chancres that differ from those of syphilis in lacking firm indurated margins — called also soft chancre.

SYMPTOMS

  • Symptoms usually occur within four days to ten days from exposure. ...
  • The ulcer begins as a tender, elevated bump, or papule, that becomes a pus-filled, open sore with eroded or ragged edges.
  • The ulcer is soft to the touch (unlike a syphilis chancre that is hard or rubbery).

CAUSES

Chancroid is a bacterial sexually transmitted disease (std) caused by infection with haemophilus ducreyi. It is characterized by painful necrotizing genital ulcers that may be accompanied by inguinal lymphadenopathy. It is a highly contagious but curable disease.
