Thymoma
A thymoma is an uncommon type of tumor of the thymus gland. The thymus is a gland located in the anterior mediastinum (the area between the two lungs and the sternum in the chest) that plays a critical role in the development of immune cells during childhood.
SYMPTOMS
- Persistent cough.
- Shortness of breath.
- Pain or pressure in the chest.
- Muscle weakness.
- Drooping eyelids.
- Double vision.
- Arm or facial swelling.
- Difficulty swallowing.
CAUSES
Thymoma and thymic carcinoma are diseases in whichmalignant (cancer) cells form on the outside surface of the thymus. Thymoma is linked with myasthenia gravisand other autoimmune diseases. Signs And symptoms of thymoma and thymic carcinoma include a cough and chest pain.
