Tinea Pedis
A contagious fungal skin infection caused by a species of trichophyton or epidermophyton that usually affects the feet, especially the skin between the toes, and is characterized by itching, blisters, cracking, and scaling. Also called tinea pedis.
SYMPTOMS
Symptoms include a scaly rash that usually causes itching, stinging and burning. People with athlete's foot can have moist, raw skin between their toes.
CAUSES
Athlete's foot occurs when the tinea fungus grows on the feet. You can catch the fungus through direct contact with an infected person, or by touching surfaces contaminated with the fungus. The fungusthrives in warm, moist environments. It's commonly found in showers, on locker room floors, and around swimming pools.
