Tremor Disease

It is a chronic progressive neurological disease chiefly of later life that is linked to decreased dopamine production in the substantia nigra and is marked especially by tremor of resting muscles, rigidity, slowness of movement, impaired balance, and a shuffling gait —called also paralysis agitans. Note: symptoms of parkinson's disease differ from person to person. They also change as the disease progresses. Symptoms that one person gets in the early stages of the disease, another person may not get until later-or not at all.Symptoms Typically begin appearing between the ages of 50 and 60.

SYMPTOMS

  • Stiff muscles (rigidity) and aching muscles. Slow, limited movement.
  • Weakness of face and throat muscles. You May choke, cough, or drool. Loss of movement in the muscles in the face can cause a fixed, vacant facial expression, often called the "parkinson's mask."
  • Difficulty with walking and balance. A small number of people have symptoms on only one side of the body that never move to the other side.

CAUSES

Parkinson's disease is caused by the progressive impairment or deterioration of neurons (nerve cells) in an area of the brain known as the substantia nigra. When functioning normally, these neurons produce a vital brain chemical known as dopamine.
