Upper Gastro Intestinal Series
Barium swallow: a test that involves filling the esophagus, stomach, and small intestines with a barium solution in preparation for an x-ray, to define the anatomy of the upper digestive tract. Also known as upper gastrointestinal series.
SYMPTOMS
- Narrowing or irritation of the esophagus (for example, schatski's ring),
- Disorders of swallowing (dysphagia - difficulty swallowing), spasms of the esophagus or pharynx.,
- Hiatal hernia (an internal defect that causes the stomach to slide partially into the chest)
CAUSES
