Urinary Incontinence In Children
Urinary incontinence is defined as the loss of complete control of the act of urination or the involuntary emptying of the bladder. It is also referred to as enuresis. It can be caused by any number of factors, and in young infants and toddlers, it is usually completely normal.
SYMPTOMS
Incontinence happens less often after age 5: about 10 percent of 5-year-olds, 5 percent of 10-year-olds, and 1 percent of 18-year-olds experience episodes of incontinence. It is twice as common in boys as in girls.
CAUSES
Many children with daytime incontinence have abnormal elimination habits, the most common being infrequent voiding and constipation.
