Diseases
Venous Veins
Venous veins are veins that have become enlarged and twisted. The term commonly refers to the veins on the leg, although venous veins can occur elsewhere. Veins have Pairs of leaflet valves to prevent blood from flowing backwards (retrograde flow or venous reflux).
SYMPTOMS
- An achy or heavy feeling in your legs.
- Burning, throbbing, muscle cramping and swelling in your lower legs.
- Worsened pain after sitting or standing for a long time.
- Itching around one or more of your veins.
- Bleeding from varicose veins.
CAUSES
In this condition, blood doesn't flow back properly to the heart, causing blood to pool in the veins in your legs. Several factors can cause venous insufficiency, though it's most commonly caused by blood clots (deep veinthrombosis) and varicose veins.
