Overactiv E Bladder (Urge Incontinence)
A sudden involuntary contraction of the muscular wall of the bladder causing urinary urgency, an immediate unstoppable need to urinate. It is a form of urinary incontinence (the unintentional loss of urine) and affects about 1 in 11 adults, particularly older adults.
SYMPTOMS
The urge to urinate may be difficult to control and lead to the involuntary loss of urine (incontinence). It may be embarrassing or limit activity.
CAUSES
- Neurological disorders, such as stroke and multiple sclerosis.
- Diabetes.
- Medications that cause a rapid increase in urine production or require that you take them with lots of fluids.
- Acute urinary tract infections that can cause symptoms similar to an overactive bladder.
